Inspektionsziele sind eine optimale Produktqualität (Null-Stunden-Qualität). AOI am Ende -oder auch nach jeweiligen Prozessschritten- der Baugruppenfertigung, liefert Informationen für die Prozesskontrolle.

AOI-Systeme liefern Fehlerstatistik und Aussagen zur Prozessstabilität. Verringerung von Reparaturaufwand durch frühzeitige Fehlerdetektion. Ermöglichen die Einsparung von elektrischen Prüfpunkten (Substitution von ICT= In-Circiut-Test).
